
Jane S. Havens, 92, of Fremont died Friday, May 13, 2016 at Elmwood Assisted Living. She was born December 26, 1923 the daughter of Peter J. and Anna (Mange) Szanca. She was a graduate of St. Casimir’s Grade School and Ross High School in 1941. Jane went on to attend the St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Toledo which was supervised by the Grey Nuns of Montreal, Canada.
Mrs. Havens started her nursing career in the Obstetrical Department at Fremont Memorial Hospital helping to deliver the newest Sandusky County citizens. She advanced through the ranks and became Director of Nursing the last 21 years of her career.
Jane married Burdette Havens in 1958 and he preceded her in death on November 25, 1978. She was also the bookkeeper for Havenshire Dairy which her husband owned. She was active in many local and state organizations, such as the Ohio Hospital Association, Northwest Ohio Regional Medical Association, St. Vincent Alumni Association, Vanguard Nurses Advisory Committee and Terra Nurses Advisory Committee.
After her retirement, Mrs. Havens traveled extensively and volunteered her time preparing tax forms for senior citizens with the AARP-IRS program. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish where she held a seat on the Parish Council, Sympathy Choir, Hospitality Committee and helped with funeral luncheons.
Surviving is a step-daughter Marilyn Bagby, grandson Kurt Beckler both of Florida, nieces and nephews: Joe Krzewinski, Robert Krzewinski, Barb Krzewinski, Annette Weber, George Osborn, David Osborn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters Ernestine Krzewinski and Frances Osborn.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 2-8P.M. and again on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 from 2-8P.M. at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, OH, where Rosary services will begin at 7:30P.M. on Wednesday evening. A Mass of Resurrection will begin at 10:30A.M. on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Zacharias officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
