Orville F. Purdy, 95, of Fremont, was called peacefully home to God, on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, with his special nephew and niece, Mike and Linda Gladieux, holding his hands. He was born the son of Perry C. and Jane (Schultz) Purdy on October 16, 1922 in Fostoria, Ohio. He graduated from Clay High School in Oregon, Ohio, and served during WWII in the Army Air Corps. Orville also worked for Sun Pipeline for 32 years as a pipeline operator. On December 7, 1984, Orville married Vivian Collins in Burgoon, and she preceded him in death in 2009.
Orville loved driving and traveling, and especially enjoyed taking trips out west. When he was home, he loved feeding the wildlife in his yard, dining at Frisch’s Big Boy, and was a dedicated Ohio Lottery scratch-off player. At the young age of 95, Orville claimed that his secret to his longevity was chewing coffee beans, which he was well known for doing. In addition, Orville was a member of the First United Church of Christ and the VFW.
Left to cherish his memory are his nieces and nephews, Michael (Linda) Gladieux, Hank (Jody) Gladieux, Mary (Marvin) Rhoads, many great and great-great nieces and nephews, his close-knit group of neighbors, and his circle of friends from Big Boy. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Vivian Purdy, brother, Richard “Dick” Purdy, and sister, Patricia “Pat” Gladieux, and his special cats, Rosie and Susie.
Visitation will take place Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420.
