William Carroll Mayle, 74, of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017. He was born the son of Carroll and Marie (Kemp) Mayle on November 14, 1942 in Fremont, Ohio, and was raised by Katherine “Kay” Mayle after the passing of his birth mother. William was a 1960 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree in accounting at Tiffin University. He went on to work as a salesman for Art Kuhn in Toledo for 40 years, selling cutting tools to various industries in the area. He was very dedicated and a skilled salesman, and received the award as #1 Salesman in NW Ohio.
William was an outdoorsman, and enjoyed boating, golfing and grilling. He was also very proud of his lawn, and spent much time mowing and maintaining it. William was a die-hard Ohio State Buckeyes fan, but, also cheered for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and the Cavaliers. However, as “Papa” and “Grandpa Bill” he was the biggest fan of his grandchildren, who he enjoyed much of his time with. William was also devoted to his community and country. He served in the National Guard, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Fremont Elks, Knights of Columbus, the Fremont Yacht Club as well as the Port Clinton Yacht Club.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Sue Ann (Newfer) Mayle, children; Michelle Lynn Scott, Brian (Jeff Wadsworth) Mayle, grandchildren; Kyira Lynn (Aaron Kerns) Barnett, Arianna Marie Scott, Gabriel William Shriver, Grace Lou Ella Mayle, Grace and Gabe’s mother, Shantel Shriver, sisters; Marion Kusmer, Joan Barr, Peg Merrill, Caroyln Vacca, Dee Michael, brother; Don Mayle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother; Katherine Mayle, and brother, Ed Mayle.
To celebrate William’s love of Ohio State, friends and family are asked to wear Ohio State apparel to his visitation, which will be Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm with a vigil at 7:30pm at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio. A Mass of Resurrection will take place Monday, October 16, 2017 at 10:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Michael Roemmele with be officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
