Mr. Alan J. Bull

Alan was born September 3, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY to Charles and Claire Bull. He is remembered by his brother as always being easily social, bright and charming. As a young child he was known as "the mayor of the streets of Queens" which is where you would always find him.

Dad graduated from Newtown High School in Farmingdale, NY, which was a school specializing in agriculture technology. Alan went on to study agricultural marketing at Cornell University and graduated with his bachelor degree in 1953. Summers working and living on various farms in rural New York were some of his favorite memories. While in college dad was a reserve officer in the ROTC. Alan served as a 2nd Lieutenant for two years in the Korean War.

Alan began working for Grand Union in 1955 and moved to Nogales, Arizona with that company in 1960. It was in El Centro, CA that he met his first wife, Patricia. They fell in love and Alan happily took on the role of parenting Pat's three children from a previous marriage. They were soon blessed with the birth of their first daughter, Margi. Soon after came Deanna and later, Holly.

Dad's work took him to Fresno in 1967. Later, Alan started the brokerage firm "Bull and Price." After several years Alan launched Alan Bull Produce.

Dad enjoyed life and anyone who met him would agree. For some time he was a contented member of the Fort Washington Country Club and golfing provided an excuse for more fun! In 1983 dad became a Master Mason with the Las Palmas Lodge. He joined Fresno Scottish Rite in 1984 and joined Tehran Shrine that same year. Dad received the following honors from Scottish Rite: invested with the Knight Commander Court of Honor in 1982; Coronated a 33rd degree Inspector General Honorary in 2005; Commander of the Fresno Council of Kadosh in 1992. Alan was awarded the honor of Potentate in 1998.

Dad's three girls wish to thank the many people of Fresno who had been helpful to us during his final months, especially kind neighbors Vickie Fazio and the Lantis Family. A special thanks to Ray Spate for lovingly caring for dad's dogs whenever he went out of town. We would also like to thank the special people who cared for dad at Willow Creek Care Center. Optimal Hospice, you were with us briefly but your approach gave dad, and then us indirectly, much comfort. We thank you....

Dad was preceded in death by both parents; and his second wife Dorothy. Later he met the warm and lovely Elaine McPherson. We will be forever grateful for the happiness she gave him before she passed.

Alan is survived by his brother, Charles Bull and his wife Odette; daughters, Margi and her husband Lance, Deanna and her husband John, and Holly and her husband Jeff; stepchildren, Stephanie and her husband David, Teddy and his wife Hong, and Shelly; grandsons, Devin, Dylan, Sam and Liam; and nephews, Charles and Eric.

Visitation will be held at Stephens & Bean Chapel on Sunday, August 15, 2010, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held at Stephens & Bean Chapel on Monday, August 16, 2010, at 1:00 p.m.

Remembrances may be made to Optimal Hospice; or to Shriner's Children's Hospital.
