Alex was born July 18, 1939, in Trona, California, to Alex and Lucille Chavarria and was raised in Trona, California, alongside his siblings Sylvia, Victor, Gilbert, and Rebecca. He graduated from Trona High School in 1957, where he excelled in sports, lettering in basketball and baseball, helping his baseball team win a championship with his legendary "Roundhouse" curveball. He remained connected to his classmates and regularly attended class reunions.
Alex later moved to Fresno, where he met the love of his life, Irene Medina. They married on November 3,1960 and built their life together in Fresno. Their family included children Alex Leonard, Cheryl Anne, Diana Marie, and Alex Richard, Jr. Alex Leonard sadly passed away at five weeks old.
In January 1961, Alex was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served for three years, including time in Germany, and was honorably discharged on January 9, 1964. During his service, Irene joined him in Germany, where their daughter Cheryl was born on July 26, 1963. On April 27, 1966, Diana Marie Chavarria was added to the family, followed by Alex Richard Chavarria, Jr. on July 21, 1969.
Alex was a dedicated and hardworking man who worked at Wong’s Automotive, Auto Parts Distributor, and later retired from Car Quest Auto Parts.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing, dancing, watching sports, air shows, car shows, and class reunions. Above all, he treasured his family. He was a proud grandfather of seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was rarely without his digital camera, capturing family gatherings and preserving countless memories and stories through photographs.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Lucille Chavarria; sister Sylvia Delgadillo; son Alex Leonard Chavarria; and granddaughter Sydney Leslie.
Alex is survived by; his loving wife, Irene; daughters, Cheryl Register and Diana Farmer; son, Alex Chavarria, Jr.; son-in- laws, Richard Register, Jeff Farmer and daughter-in-law Mona Chavarria, seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; siblings; extended family; and many friends.
Alex will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of life, his stories, and the countless memories he created for those who knew and loved him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
