Sonny was born on 16 February 1948 in Merced, California to Manuel and Pilar Sanchez.
He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Fresno and would go on to serve a career in the Internal Revenue Service. He will be remembered as a loving father, a kind and generous man who was an avid sports fan. He was particularly a Fresno State super fan. He loved the silver and black (Raiders) and loved to cheer on his Los Angeles Dodgers. Sonny loved his Mexican heritage and was a patriotic American whose proud and honorable service in the United States Army included a combat tour in Vietnam (1968-69).
He is immediately survived by his four children, his son Alfred Sanchez of Stafford, VA, daughter-in-law Barbara Sanchez, grandchildren Jeremy Sanchez and Jillian Sanchez; his daughter Andrea Sanchez of Fresno, grandchildren Gabriel Sanchez, Sabrina Polin, and Shayna Polin; son Michael Sanchez of Fresno, fiancé Krystle Lopez, grandchildren Alexis Sanchez and Mikey Sanchez; daughter Melissa De Leon of Fresno, son-in-law Gabriel De Leon, grandchildren Jaden Martinez, Maya De Leon, Franki De Leon, and Kaley Keller.
A Celebration of Life will begin Mon, 3 April, 2023 with a viewing at 3 to 6 pm and Rosary from 6 to 7 pm to be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns, & Blair Funeral Home. Church services will be held at St. Anthony’s of Padua in Fresno at 10 am on 4 April, 2023 followed by internment at Fresno Memorial Gardens.
