Alice Chavez

February 20, 1941 – August 24, 2025
Obituary of Alice Chavez
IN THE CARE OF

Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mama and Grandma on August 24, 2025, at the age of 84, in Fresno, CA. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family by her side.

Alice was born in Madera, CA on February 20, 1941, and attended San Joaquin Memorial High School where she graduated in 1960. She then went on to attend Fresno City College where she obtained her nursing degree and went on to become a nurse at the former Valley Medical Center in the Labor and Delivery unit, a position she greatly enjoyed.

Alice married the love of her life, Manuel John Chavez, at St. John’s Cathedral in Fresno, CA and was married for 53 years, until Manuel’s passing in 2019.

She was a stay at home mother and devoted her life to her five children; four daughters and one son. After raising her five children, Alice decided to take on a career in child care where she was the director of the child care facility at a local country club.

After retirement, Alice and Manuel enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. Her favorite trips were to the Hawaiian Islands.

She was preceded in death by her husband Manuel, her brother Ralph, and her parents.

Alice is survived by all her children; Mary Alice and her husband Pablo and their two children Jennifer and Kevin; Susan and husband Luis; Kathy and husband Kelly and their daughter Julia; Cynthia, and Paul.

A vigil and Rosary will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns, and Blair Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where she was a parishioner. Entombment to follow where she will rest next to her beloved husband, Manuel, at St Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.

Alice will always be cherished by her family and will live on in our hearts forever.
