Andrea Arguijo

Our beloved Andrea Arguijo left us July 18, 2026 after a brief sudden illness at the age of 73. She was in peace surrounded by her loving husband and family.

A beautiful lady and soul, Andie was a native of Fresno, raised mostly in Pinedale and attended schools there before graduating from Clovis High School with the Class of 1971. Unable to find employment in Fresno after high school, the young Latina discovered the world when she moved to Los Angeles to live and work before marrying and bringing three children into the world, Tara, Erica and Jon Galvan.

Andrea and family returned to Fresno and she soon began her Fresno State journey, enjoying a fulfilling career first in the Accounting Office and the Educational Opportunity Program before serving the bulk of her 35 years in the Division of Student Affairs working first under the late Associate Dean Manuel Perez and later Vice President Dr. Paul Oliaro as his executive administrative analyst when she retired early in 2011. Andie was a Fresno State Bulldog por vida and supportive of the university’s Chicano Alumni Club.

Andie’s family was the center of her universe, attending ongoing family functions. She relished the regular company of siblings Bea, Butch, David and Rossanna as well as her Aunt Lola in Los Angeles and cousin Rose to whom Andie also became a big sister. But her three children were the light of that universe. Later her grandchildren from Erica – Ellie, Crystal, Anna and Francisco -- illuminated her days even more immensely.

Andie also enjoyed nearly 30 memorable years with her second husband, Tom Uribes, also a Fresno State retiree who was by her side through all her trials and tribulations during their time together, including the final weeks of her life as her illness consumed her physical body.

But she never lost her true inner spirit although her wonderful world was dimmed upon the passing of eldest daughter Tara at the age of 34 in 2010. This led her to retire early so she could spend more time with her family, who along with Tom, helped Andie sustain her fighting spirit during that difficult time. She stood strong and went on to be inspired by Tara’s love and spirit. For Dia De Los Muertos, Andie would gather her family for a remembrance dinner and to pray at the Altar she kept for Tara in her living room.

Not to be overlooked is a very special loved one, her dog CocoBoo who came to her shortly after Tara’s passing from son Jon, fulfilling a singular mission for Andie at the time. And Coco, a petite little chug, served that mission well, sharing a special love and happiness that also was lavished on anyone who came to visit.

Andie’s world and spirit were equally illuminated when daughter Erica gave birth to three wonderful grandchildren, and then as she stood by them in their many activities whether it was soccer, folklorico dancing, choir performances and the regular birthday celebrations. She was particularly thrilled when her granddaughter Ellie graduated from Fresno State in 2025 earning a media, communications and journalism degree and began her career the week after commencement as a communications specialist for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fresno. She recently learned that Anna will be enrolling in college this fall and Erica plans to resume her higher education pursuit. This academic spirit was first bolstered in 2005, when son Jon earned a degree in mechanical engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Andie also enjoyed the company of many close friends over the years who kept in touch. As life continues and everyone has their own worlds to tend, it’s understandable to lose direct touch but anytime Andie crossed paths and reconnected, it was like old times never ceased. The incredible social media responses at the news of Andie’s passing is a resounding tribute with expressions of condolences, love and positive growth forward with many testifying to how Andie touched them in her time on earth, even for one moment.

In addition to the Bulldogs, she was an avid San Francisco fan: 49ers, Giants and Warriors; a lover of all kinds of music but especially Tejano música and dancing; and had taken up sewing as her retirement hobby creating amazing blankets, purses and rope bowls to name a few. But her greatest pastime was visiting with family and connecting with dear friends like Mary Mejia and others; daily phone calls from her daughter Erica, sisters and sis in law Mary Waldo; and receiving visits from her grandchildren with accounts of their daily lives.

We know that Andie now rests in eternal peace in the hands of God and our Savior Jesus Christ with not just her beloved Tara, but her parents Pedro and Noni Arguijo, sister Mary, brothers Jesus and Arthur, Aunt Rosie Woodley and cousin Jack Noriega.

Andrea is survived by husband Tom Uribes; daughter Erica Galvan and partner Rae Montoya; son Jon Galvan and husband Oscar Fletes; granddaughters Ellie Oliva, Crystal Cabrera, Anna Cabrera and Francisco Cabrera; stepsons Michael Uribes and his wife Eunice, and Matthew Uribes; step grandsons Mateo Andrew Uribes II and his fiancé Marina, and their sons, Andie’s step great-grandsons, Mateo III and Jeremiah Uribes; stepsons Xavier, Nathaniel and Dominic Uribes and Dominic’s mother Jennifer Piearcy.

She is also survived by siblings Pete “Butch” Arguijo and wife Mary “Waldo”; Bea Coronado and husband Alex; Mariano Arguijo, David Arguijo and husband Darryl Lott; Rossana Contreras and husband Dan; aunt Lola Saldivar and cousin/sister Rose Latimer; sisters-in-law Regina Uribes and Marty Uribes and brothers-in-law Ray Uribes and Pat Uribes.

Andie also enjoyed the company and love of numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses and children over the years at countless family functions: Jacqui Dominguez (wife Katherine); Frankie Dominguez; Martha Sanders (husband Ben); Pete Arguijo III (wife Michelle); Lea lundin (husband Jason); Arthur Joseph Arguijo (fiance jasmine); Kasey Frazier (Anthony Segovia); Dana Dubois (husband Jason); Brandon Contreras (wife Stephanie); Marissa Contreras (fiancé Aaron Hernandez).

Funeral services will be held in Fresno Aug. 5 and 6 in Fresno, beginning Wednesday with a viewing (5-6 p.m.) followed by recitation of the Holy Rosary (6-6:30 pm) and a Celebration of Life eulogy and presentation (6:30-7:30 p.m.) at the Whitehurst Sullivan Funeral Home (836 E. Nees Ave). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Shrine of St. Therese in Fresno (855 E. Floradora Ave in Fresno).
