Arthur, or Art as he was known by to his friends and family was born second to youngest in a family of six; with three brothers, Ross (half-brother), Vernon and Ellis. Living with his mother (Maimie Wortham Greenhill) and father (Samuel 'Dixie' Greenhill) and also with close Aunts (Oreta) and Uncles in his youth, he spent his childhood and young adult life in North East Texas and the Low-Country of Louisiana. His father worked for the railroad and was a potato farmer, while his mother raised her children and worked at the Seventh Adventist School where Art and his brothers attended. Later in life she sold Stanley Home Goods. Much of Art's life was spent providing for or in support his parents and he shared a close bond with two of his youngest siblings, Vernon and Ellis Greenhill and their wives and eventually children. He left school at 6th grade to help support his family but, considered the world his University and took advantage of that in all respects.
