Arthur was born to Stanley and Priscilla Lewis in August 1938. He grew up in Georgetown Guyana, South America. As a young man, he was a merchant Seaman of the Dutch Navy. He then moved to England where he worked for British Rail. He worked there as a guard and then became a supervisor. He was there for 30 years and then retired. Arthur was an active member, Director & Sergeant at Arms of the Fresno County Democratic Women's Club. Arthur was survived by his wife, Devone Lewis. They met, fell in love and married in 1975. They were married for 48 years. Arthur is survived by his younger brother, Stanley Lewis; Arthur's 3 sons, Oliver, Colin and Ray Lewis; his 2 daughters, Shakira Lewis Corn and Marissa Lewis & bonus daughter, Korrea Lewis; niece, Anna Armstrong; nephew, Mark Lewis; and grandniece, Tanya Armstrong. Arthur has 13 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren with 2 on the way. The Lewis family would like to thank everyone for the outpour of love, support and kind words of encouragement. Arthur was a huge presence and touched many lives all over the world. He will be missed by so many.
A visitation will occur Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home, 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA 93720. A celebration of life for Arthur will be held following the visitation at 10:00 AM at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home, 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, California 93720. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Clovis Cemetery District, 305 N Villa Ave, Clovis, California 93612.
