Ashok Kumar Munjal was a loved father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He left a positive impact on the lives of many people. He was born January 7, 1943 in Makdumpur in pre-partition India. He passed away on February 1, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Suman Munjal, and his son, Atul Munjal. He is also survived by his four brothers (Ajit, Vijay, Pramod, and Rakesh Munjal), his sister (Raj Singh), and many nephews and nieces. Ashok led a unique, productive, and storied life, not only touching the lives of individuals, but contributing to society as well. Starting from when he had just become a young man, Ashok began working and supported his parents and siblings. He was a trailblazer and the first of his family to immigrate on his own to America while on a graduate school scholarship in the mid-1960s. Being a newly arrived graduate student in America in the mid 1960s with little money, he built himself up and created a strong base for both himself and his family. He continued to support his family in India. He then sponsored his parents and siblings, bringing them over from India to America. Ashok obtained 2 masters degrees: one in chemical engineering from Wayne State University (MI) and another in chemistry from University of Kansas. became a chemical engineer at Ford and then entered into the aerospace industry, where he collaboratively worked with and helped both the U.S. government and NASA in the development of missiles, aircraft, and spacecraft. He met and married Suman Malhotra in Detroit, Michigan on March 5, 1978. He and Suman had a son, Atul, on September 14, 1983. Ashok and his family were very close and lived together in his last few years. Ashok passed away peacefully and without pain, while at home in his bed, and while surrounded by his wife and son. Ashok was a unique soul whose presence will be deeply missed. Join us in-person where we celebrate this blessed soul, as we say our final goodbyes to Ashok's physical form and wish him well off on his journey in the spiritual realm where he will be reunited with his ancestors and in the presence of God.
