Bette was born New Year's day 1929 in Sioux Falls, S.D. to Beulah and Hugo Voigt. She shared a
mutual birthday with her father's brother, Clint Voigt and each year the extended family would gather
to celebrate the New Year and the mutual birthdays, a tradition that continued until the last few years.
Bette grew up on a farm in the rural Hartford, S.D. and Wall Lake area. Her paternal grandparents
John and Tillie Voigt owned an open air dance pavilion on the shores of Wall Lake. She received her
elementary education thru the eighth grade in a one room country school house. At 17 she graduated
from Washington High School in Sioux Falls. That same year she obtained her first office position, the
beginning of a business career. She held several positions before moving to Fresno in 1950. In Fresno
she worked at G .E. Supply for 2 years, and North American Aviation until it closed. In 1957 she
joined the work force at Terminal Air Brake Supply where she completed 32 years of service as their
bookkeeper, credit manager and office manager, retiring in 1990. Strong values, accountability, hard
work and honesty were the principles that guided her in her 44 year business career,
She and Nick Obradovich were married in Reno, NV on November 24, 1960. The couple resided
in Fresno until 1981 when they purchased a new home site on 2 1 /2 acres in Selma, CA. They had a
custom home built and on surrounding ground they grew pomegranates, grapes and oranges.
After 16 wonderful years they decided to sell their home, downsize, and moved back to the Fresno
and Clovis area, living the last 7 years in Clovis.
After retirement she and her husband enjoyed numerous sea cruises to the Panama Canal, Hawaii,
Mexico, the Caribbean, Alaska, Canada and New England. They celebrated their 50th Wedding
Anniversary on a 7 day cruise to Mexico.
They also enjoyed gambling junkets to Lake Tahoe, Reno, Las Vegas and Laughlin along with
occasional trips to local Indian casinos.
Nick will miss all of Bette's fine cooking and the 54 years of togetherness in marriage, many cruise
vacations, gambling trips too many to count. The success of their marriage was due to the love and
devotion of a wife to her husband. He will feel her loss forever.
Bette leaves behind her loving, devoted husband of 54 years Nick Obradovich, a daughter Debra
Dodd and her husband Dale, two grandsons, Dustin Dodd and his wife Jenny, Aaron Dodd and his
wife Jennifer. She also leaves behind her three precious great grandsons, Ian, Kyler and Nolan Dodd,
and sister Janet Faccinto and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and brother-in-laws John and
Louie Obradovich and his wife Linda.
A Celebration of Bette's life will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Whitehurst,
Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please send remembrance to St. Agnes Hospice, P.O. Box 27350, Fresno, CA 93729 or the
