Play Tribute Movie

Brian Francis Coulter is finally free; free of his body ravaged by ALS. While the last few months of his life were consumed by his disease, he will be forever known as someone who was very active and quick witted. Brian showed us all what courage, strength and faith means. He lived with dignity, kindness and grace. Forever the coach, he taught us all that it was possible to live life to its fullest even when facing such huge obstacles. He touched so many lives in such a positive way. His number one passion was his family with soccer as a close second.

In 1975 he married Patrice, his high school sweetheart, and they began their life's adventure. His pride and joy are his 3 children Rachel, Bobby and Scott. He considered their spouses Eddie, Kasanna and Chelsea his own children. He was blessed with grandchildren Megan, Katie, Abby, Timmy, Oliver and Ian with each holding a special unique place in his heart. He loved to spend time with his family and everyone who knew us knew that Thursday was pizza night when the whole family got together and everyone else was welcome. Brian always looked forward to spending every 4th of July in Cayucos with the entire family.

Brian was a proud veteran who served in the US Air Force from 1975 to 1979. Following his military career, he spent the next 21 years as a service tech for Curb Service. In 2000 he joined Central California Electronics where he worked until he retired in November of 2016. Soccer was his second passion. He played on many teams throughout the years but really enjoyed coaching, especially goalkeeping. He trained many to go on to receive soccer scholarships at colleges throughout the U.S. He was one of just a few National B licensed coaches in the Valley. He coached girls soccer at many Valley high schools and clubs. He also coached goalkeepers at Fresno State and spent 10 years coaching at Fresno City College with Oliver Germond. He coached at the regional and national levels and was a highly respected coach. He received recognition for his contributions to soccer in his community from Olympic Gold Medalists and World Cup champions Mia Hamm, Tisha Venturini and Kristine Lilly who will be honoring him with a scholarship in his name to their Team First camps.

Brian was born September 25, 1956 in Paso Robles to Ralph and Betty Coulter. He passed away Saturday November 18, 2017. He had five siblings Mike (deceased), Michelle , Kerry, Kevin, and Mary. He is also survived by his in-laws, who he considered his brothers and sisters, Manuel & Sandra Staffero, Therese & Rob Meadows and Denise & Fred Cooper along with many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Shohreh, Christina and Yolanda with Hinds Hospice who cared for him like their own family.

A celebration of Brian's life will be held Friday November 24 at Stephens & Bean Chapel. Visitation will be from 10am-1pm with service starting at 1pm followed by internment at Fresno Memorial Gardens and reception following.

Coach Brian, you will forever be remembered and missed. When I think of soccer, I will always think of you and your quick wit and the way you made us laugh. My heart hurts for all of us left behind but especially your beautiful family. They are in my prayers.
