January 20, 1930 - March 26,2013
Carl passed away very peacefully to our heavenly Father on March 26, 2013. He was born to Cecelia and Carl H Ostergaard. In 1946, Carl, SR. opened a Family based hardware business located in Fresno CA. When Carl, Jr. returned from active duty in the Army, fighting the Korean War, father and son teamed up in the family business. Their store was named Madison Hardware. Carl married his one and only love, Laverna Knisley 60 years ago. They successfully worked side-by-side for 60 years in the business until retiring in 2006. Laverna and Carl knew their success was based in the family and friend relationships of their community. Madison Hardware is one of the last of its kind. A family business that served the community as a neighbor and a friend.
Our father never knew a stranger. He was a kind and gentle spirit, a good listener and a problem solver. Carl was nick-named 'Pal' by his loving daughters and their mother agreed, saying "It's a blessing to have a dad who is also a friend and pal." He was a member of the NRA, Danish Historical Society, the Fresno Trade Club and the Edison Social Club. He was an avid hunter and sportsman. Pal was a marksman and a sergeant in the military. He enjoyed quail and dove hunting with his brothers Dick and Dean. He enjoyed gardening and faithfully planted his tomatoes yearly. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Carl is survived by his loving and caring wife Laverna, sister; Beverly; daughter, Karlene and her husband Jim Stefani, and three loving grandchildren, Brieann, Drake and Darien Stefani and daughter Kathy Ostergaard. He is also survived by his brother Dean Best; the Mehling Family; Larry Ostergaard, Janet Scharton, the Hansen family and the Sorensen family.
Many Thanks to his wonderful caregiver, Laura, Dr. Owen and Chris RN, with special thanks to St. Agnes Hospice's staff and Anne RN.
A private Graveside service will be at Fresno Memorial Gardens.
