Born on March 13, 1950, in Mitchell, South Dakota, Carla was the cherished daughter of the late Ernest and Constance Perkins. Carla was raised in Fremont, Nebraska, but returned to Mitchell to complete her education, graduating from both high school and college there.
Carla's career spanned 40 years with the Federal Government, working diligently for the Internal Revenue Service until her retirement. In her retirement, Carla found joy in spending time with her grandsons, sharing meals with friends, and taking spontaneous trips to the beach.
She met her late husband, Calvin Watkins, during a visit to a mutual friend, and together they built a family full of love and warmth. Carla was a devoted mother to her son, Calvin Watkins, and her daughter, Connie Watkins. She was also a proud grandmother to her grandsons, Calvin and Aaron Watkins.
Carla had a passion for cooking and enjoyed watching cooking shows. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and pets. An avid sports fan, Carla particularly enjoyed cheering on Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, as well as the Dallas Cowboys, her favorite football team. Her favorite color was blue, and she had a deep love for 50's and 60's music, especially Motown, Jazz, and Soul.
Carla was known for her selflessness and her willingness to go above and beyond to care for those she loved. She was non-judgmental, warm, and always accommodating, providing unwavering support to her family and friends. After the untimely passing of her husband, she worked tirelessly to raise her two children as a single parent, embodying strength and resilience.
Carla is survived by her brother Gerald "Jerry" Perkins, brother John "Jack" Perkins, and sister Carol Perkins, She is also survived by her children, Calvin Watkins and Connie Watkins, and her grandchildren, Calvin Watkins and Aaron Watkins.
Carla will be remembered as a wife, mother, and grandmother who loved fiercely and took immense pride in her family. Her legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew her.
