Carrie Lou Butchert, born January 12, 1937, in Pueblo, Colorado, passed away on January 24, 2022, at the age of 85, in Fresno, California. The first of eight children, she is survived by all seven of her younger siblings. Leading the way for all of them, she became the first member of the family to attend college, the first to marry and have children, and the first to see all four of her children have children and grandchildren of their own.
With a deep history of art in her family, Carrie Lou expressed her artistic talents creating beautiful, relaxing garden-scapes surrounding their home, filling them with birdhouses constructed by Jerry and elaborately painted by her. She decorated her home and the homes of a few lucky ones with her gorgeous quilts. Sometimes she took time off and traveled the world with Jerry, including Europe, Africa, South America, China, and Russia, always returning with art from their journeys. While at home she appreciated time with friends from her book and quilt clubs, and experimenting in the kitchen with fun, new recipes. Always sharing her discoveries, she gifted her children with a Butchert Family Cookbook filled with all the treasured, unprinted family recipes so they might carry on the culinary tradition.
After courageously battling cancer for more than two decades, Carrie Lou rejoins her husband of 65 years, Jerry Butchert, leaving behind a loving family of four children, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren (plus two more on the way!). All of them, her siblings, and dear friends, will celebrate her life on March 5, 2022 at 11am followed by lunch at the Newman Center in Fresno where she worshiped for more than forty years.
