Cecil was born in Exeter, CA, the first of six children to Ida and Oliver Alford. He joined the Army in 1941 and was a decorated veteran of WWII serving four years in the Aleutian Islands and the Pacific front. Soon after returning to Clovis, he married Bette and has continued his love and devotion to her for more than 64 years. They have shared a strong faith in God and a life of dedicated Christian service through the Evangelical Free Church.
Cecil retired in 1982 after 32 years of employment at Ranchers Cotton Seed Oil mill in Fresno. He then became active in the Fresno State Women's Softball Diamond Club, where he served as Vice President and was instrumental in getting the women's softball stadium built to show his strong support for women's athletics. He has also been a good role model and friend to veterans through his participation in VFW Post 3225.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all his brothers and sisters: Willis Alford, Darrell Alford, Mayble Straughn, Doris Mans- field, Mary Lou Wenzel. He was also preceded in death by two beloved sons Dennis and Dale Alford.
He is survived by his wife, Bette; daughter, Dr. Darlys Alford of Ocean Springs, MS; son and wife, Doran and Diana Alford of Fresno and four grandsons: Nathan Wiens of Ocean Springs, MS; David Wiens and wife Silke Planert of San Francisco; Jarod Alford of Portland, OR; Geoffrey Alford of Fresno.
Cecil died peacefully after a long struggle with Alzhiemer's and was able to stay in his home until his death on Monday because of the loving support of many friends, caring neighbors, supportive Chris- tian brothers and sisters, dedicated medical helpers and especially Hines Hospice workers. The family wishes to thank everyone of the many people who have helped keep Cecil close to us throughout his long and very remarkable life.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 at 11:00 am The Bridge Evangelical Free Church. As a family we request that donations be made to The Bridge Church, Hines Hospice, or other charity on Cecil's behalf in lieu of sending flowers.
Arrangements under the direction of Lisle Funeral Home, Fresno, CA.
