“Cil”
Celia Gamber of Fresno, passed away in Clovis on March 17, 2018, at the age of 90. Born in Clovis, she was a longtime Fresno resident and Clovis business owner.
Cil graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1945 and remained active in the Rough Rider class reunions throughout the decades. She attended Fresno State College and worked for Bank of America for many years. She went on to become the Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Fresno State.
During the 1970s, Cil and her late husband, Rockie Gamber, designed, built and owned several shopping centers and office complexes in Clovis. Most recently, she was still the owner and on-site manager of Rodeo Plaza II, an office complex in Clovis.
Cil was a member of the Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic parish and was a volunteer with the Saint Agnes Hospital Service Guild during the early 1970s, where she was instrumental in designing the Guild’s emblem. She was a past member of the Bulldog Women’s Foundation, volunteer at the Infant of Prague Adoption Agency, Charter Member of the Saint Agnes Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors and the first recipient of the Outstanding Board Member award.
She was dedicated to her tenants in the office building that she owned and managed, and in her spare time, enjoyed playing pinochle, gin rummy and her favorite, blackjack. She was a voracious reader and a skilled crossword puzzle solver. More than anything, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
