Charles "Charlie" Lambetecchio was born in Fresno, CA, on February 16, 1933, to Italian immigrants Tony and Catherine Lambetecchio. He was called home on August 18, 2024, at the age of 91, with his loving family by his side.
Charlie grew up with his 6 older siblings on the family farm, helping his father grow and develop fig orchards throughout the Fresno area. He attended Edison High School and graduated from Central Union High School in 1951. Charlie met the love of his life, Stella, and began their family when they were blessed with three beautiful girls, Patricia, Sandra, and Catherine. Charlie served in the Army and worked for American Transfer Co. as both a driver and dispatcher. He and his brother Pete owned and operated Fresno Madera Ice & Liquor until they both retired. Charlie loved spending time with his family at their cabin in Shaver Lake and summer trips to Monterey.
Charlie's true passion in life was hot rodding. From a young age he was drawn to speed. He loved going to races at Kearney Bowl and racing boats at Bass Lake. Charlie was a classic car collector and proudly showed them at car shows all across the country. His most prestigious award came in 2004 when his 1936 Ford Roadster won America's Most Beautiful Roadster. He was inducted into the Grand National Roadster Show Hall of Fame in 2009. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Catherine Lambetecchio, brothers Frank and Pete Lambetecchio, sisters Ann DiPinto, Lucile Gilbert, Mary Brinkhaus, and Jeane Morgigno.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 70 years Stella; his daughters Patricia Schneider (Ron), Sandra Peelman, Catherine Bischel (Richard); Grandchildren Stephanie (Jeff) Nalesnik, Charlie (Allee) Schneider, John Ross (Kristen) Peelman, Anthony (Katie) Bischel, Richard (Kalyn) Bischel, and seven great grandchildren. The family would like to express a special heartfelt thank you to all of Charlie's caregivers from Visiting Angels that provided him with exceptional support and loving care.
Charlie will be remembered with a graveside service on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Fresno Memorial Gardens at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made in Charlie's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
