It is with deep sadness that the family of Claire Margaret Budai announce her passing on May 5, 2019, in Fresno, CA at the age of 90. Claire Margaret Lang was born August 15, 1928 in Cincinnati, OH, the second of four children of Nora Agnes (Burke) and Irvin Lang. She was married to Andrew Paul Budai in 1948 and they began their life together in Cincinnati, OH followed by Lee, MA, Germantown, IL, Fresno, CA, Overland Park, KS, and finally returned to live in Fresno, where Claire worked for the Vendo Company until she retired. She was an avid life-long bridge player, an active participant in the St. Anthony of Padua community, and enjoyed traveling domestically and internationally with her friends and sisters.
Claire was the mother of seven children and is survived by six of them: Joyce Budai of Santa Fe, NM, Andrew Budai (and spouse Cheri) of Overland Park, KS, Michael Budai (and spouse Audrey) of Olathe, KS, Christine Budai (and spouse Timothy McGilvrey) of Portland, OR, Jerome Budai (and spouse Cathy Sagrillo) of Ellicott City, MD, and Janice Budai (and spouse Fermin Dávalos) of Sherman Oaks, CA, and by seven grandchildren: Adam and Zachary Essene, Tygh McGilvrey, Kelsey McGilvrey Steere, Daniel Budai, and Jeremy and Jordy Dávalos. Claire is also survived by two of her sisters: Virginia Ann Hunter and Evelyn May Broerman. Claire was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Budai and her 3rd child, Ann Therese Budai.
To celebrate Claire’s life, there will be a visitation on May 24, 2019, 9:30 to 10:30 am, followed by a short rosary and a funeral mass at 11:00 am, St. Anthony of Padua Church, 5570 N. Maroa Ave., Fresno, CA. Internment follows at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 264 N. Blythe Ave., Fresno.
