Clyde was a Veteran Marine Sergeant and served in WW II and the Korean Conflict and was 100% combat disabled.
Clyde, a long-time resident of Firebaugh CA, served as a city councilman there for 24 years, a member of the volunteer Fire Dept. and was a certified EMT and certified ambulance driver. He was also a member of the Firebaugh Chamber of Commerce, VFW Post 7380, American Legion Post 346, Fresno County EOC Board and owned and operated Firebaugh TV & Appliance from 1931 to 2005.
Clyde loved and protected his wife, children, city and country. He really enjoyed taking his family fishing, hunting, and camping. While on the Firebaugh City Council, he had an open door for all. People with problems came to him because they knew he would listen and try to help, always with his time and sometimes if they needed money. He gave everyone equal help whatever the need. He knew what it meant to go without because he grew up that way.
He wanted to make sure his children had a good home and education. He stressed education to all his grandchildren and help with financial aid when needed. He wanted them to have the chance he never had when he was young. At the age of seven, Clyde’s father passed away and his mother sent him and his brother Jake to live with their grandfather in Arkansas. Education was a present for all children and he would give $1.00 for each good report card, not only for his grandchildren but for other children to give them incentive to study hard. Many children took him up on his deal. Parents would come and thank him for getting their kids more interested in school.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers and his daughter Karen Haggard.
Clyde is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorice; sons John Fannon and his wife, Gayle; and Michael Fannon and his wife, Nannette; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He will be missed by many friends and neighbors.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella, at 10:30 a.m.
