Joan attended Linden Elementary School in Fremont, Nebraska before moving to California, where she graduated from Jefferson Union High School in Daly City, California, class of 1953. After high school, Joan worked as a secretary for Northern Life in the Bay Area.
On December 25, 1984, she married Charles Richard Snedden of Fresno, California, and they were married for 37 years until his passing in 2021. Joan has one brother, Elton, two sisters, Shirley and Gail, and one daughter, Karen.
She loved sewing and knitting. One Christmas, she knitted stockings for all of her nieces and nephews, which they still talk about to this day. Joan also enjoyed crossword puzzles, and let's not forget SHOPPING! She also spoiled her many dogs and cats, treating them as if they were her children.
Joan was diagnosed with dementia in 2021. Charles Payne, son of Joan's husband Charles, was their loving caregiver. After his father's death, Charles stayed with and continued caring for Joan. When the time came that she needed specialized care, Joan felt comfortable at Dignity Manor, a small home care facility just a couple of miles from where Charles lived. Joan always greeted him with her beautiful blue eyes and a smile. Even when she couldn't remember Charles's name, she still recognized him. Some days, she wouldn't stop talking about "who knows what", and some days, they just held each other and watched TV.
Joan passed peacefully in her sleep with Charles by her side. At 90 years old, she was tired. She will be laid to rest with her husband.
Joan, I never left you as I promised. Thank you for the dance.
