Danny was born on August 1, 1957 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Lionel and Stella Serimian while Lionel was serving in the United States Army. The family returned to their hometown of Selma in 1958 where Selma remained Danny’s home.
Danny attended Selma schools and graduated from Selma High School with the Class of 1975. He continued his education at the University of Southern California (USC) before spending a year studying art in Southern California, further developing his natural artistic talent.
He was a gifted sketch artist whose creativity found expression in many ways, including collaborating in designing the iconic Red Lion Nectarine logo—a symbol forever connected to his family’s farming legacy.
Working alongside his family, Danny helped with the family’s farming operations before later helping manage the family fruit packing business. There, they packed varieties of the renowned Red Lion Nectarine, a patented variety developed by his father, Lionel. Danny took great pride in continuing his family’s farming legacy and contributing to the business that had been built through dedication and hard work.
Whether he was sketching, designing or restoring a classic automobile, Danny had a rare ability to see beauty and potential where others did not. His creativity, patience, and meticulous attention to detail were evident in everything he touched.
Danny believed in giving back to the community he loved. Danny proudly served the City of Selma on the Planning Commission for more than five years, including serving as Vice Chairman, helping guide the city’s growth and development with thoughtful leadership and sound judgment. He later continued his commitment to public service as a member of the Selma Health Care District Board of Directors, where he served for approximately four years. Even while hospitalized in 2024, Danny participated in board meetings from his hospital bed, a testament to his unwavering dedication to the community he loved. During his tenure, he was honored by his fellow board members by being elected Vice Chair and later Chair of the Board.
Danny is survived by his wife, Kristie; his sons, Blake and Kaden; his daughter, Aran; his mother-in-law, Virginia Balakian, whom he loved as a mother; his brothers-in-law, Dennis and David Balakian, whom he loved as brothers; his sister, Leslie; and his nieces and nephews.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Steven Chooljian, Dr. Donald Gregory, Dr. Talal Arab and the many outstanding physicians and nurses who cared for Danny with such compassion and dedication during his year long hospitalization at St. Agnes Medical Center. Thank you for believing in Danny. Thank you for standing with our family in faith. Your team met with us several times each day to provide an update, discuss treatment plans, answer our questions, and offer our family comfort and strength during the most difficult days of our lives. We appreciate each and every one of you beyond measure.
Against all odds, Danny grew stronger, fought harder, and was eventually released to a rehabilitation center, where he began the long journey of regaining his strength with the hope of walking again. His recovery progressed steadily each day and did remarkably well throughout the following year and a half in rehabilitation. His determination, resilience, and unwavering spirit inspired everyone who had the privilege of caring for him until the Lord suddenly and unexpectedly called Danny home.
Though our hearts are broken beyond words, we find comfort knowing that Danny is at peace, restored completely, and forever home with the Lord.
His love, his strength, and the memories he created will live on in all of us until we meet again.
