

David was born in Sanger, California on October 6, 1943 to Manuel and Sally Austin. Shortly after his birth and upon the return of his father from WWII, the family moved to San Jose where he was raised with his three younger siblings. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Once he was honorably discharged, he attended and graduated from San Jose State University. He went on to earn his teaching and administrative credentials, where he was an elementary school Principal and Superintendent. Later on, he continued his educational journey by attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Here he earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration.
David married his college sweetheart, Mary Ellen, and together they had two daughters, Jaime Lee and Maribeth. Married 45 years, David and Mary Ellen worked as one to fulfill the dreams of their growing family. This loving family grew and now includes sons-in-law Michael Campbell and Art Velasco and grandson Parker Campbell.
David will be remembered by all who knew him as a passionate educator, a devout Catholic, an energetic horseman, a lover of life, and a friend to all. He will be missed by many but never forgotten.
Visitation will be held in Fresno at the Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 9:30 a.m.
