

David will be always be remembered as a kind and generous man who would help anyone without hesitation.
Born September 22, 1940 in Lyman, Nebraska, his family later moved to Madera, California where he attended Madera High School. In 1958, when he was just 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
In 1963 he met the love of his life, Esther Gonzales. They were married for 52 years and had two children, Ronald and Sandra.
David worked in the automobile industry and in 1975 opened his own auto dealership. He reluctantly retired after 45 years but continued to use his vast knowledge of the car business to help friends and family find cars. This was one of his favorite pastimes.
David's joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. "Papa" had a way of making "fixing sprinklers" fun. "Papa" never missed an opportunity to love his grandchildren generously and they loved him dearly.
His passion in life was not only his family but his love for music. He was a very talented singer, guitarist. He began playing acoustic guitar in his teens and went on to play professionally in a Trio. David could always be found playing with, and for, his friends and family, or serenading his wife with traditional romantic boleros.
David is survived by his wife Esther, his daughter Sandra Bannister and her husband Tim, his son Ronald Herrera and his wife April; and grandchildren, Brendan, Jordan, Alyssa, Jillian, his brother Sam Belman and his wife Teresa, his sister Bertha Fuentes and her husband Paul, his brother Larry Herrera and his wife Judy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday February 17, 2017 at Northwest Church 5415 N. West Ave., Fresno. 11:00 AM.
