David Anthony Leon, loved by family, friends and co-workers for his prodigious intellect, unpredictable sense of humor, and irrepressibly kind heart, passed away suddenly on the morning of March 3 at Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno, CA.
He was born on September 2, 1966 in Fresno to parents Mario Guillermo Leon and Bonnie Tucker Bowen (formerly Leon). He grew up in northwest Fresno and in 1989 joined the US Army, where he served in Germany until 1991. Upon his return he attended Fresno City College and then transferred to UCLA where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, graduating Magna Cum Laude with departmental honors. From then on he lived most of his remaining years in Los Angeles County. He had an intuitive understanding of computers which he parlayed into a successful 17-year career in software development. His last 5 years were spent as a Senior .NET developer for Informa Research Services in Calabasas, CA, where he and his work were greatly prized.
David's presence and passions were always larger-than-life; he threw himself with childlike abandon into his interests, which included football, cooking, fitness, technology, and film. He claimed to remember every fact that he had "ever been exposed to," a claim that no one was ever able to disprove. He possessed a singular combination of altruism and irreverence that touched the hearts of all who met him, and his boundless generosity toward his loved ones will never be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Ecuadorean Colonel Cesar Leon Zubiria and Beatriz Meneses Rosales de Leon and his maternal grandparents Robert Edrick Tucker and Hazel Mae Johnson Tucker, and by his sister Briana Leon.
He will be terribly missed by all who knew him, but particularly by his parents Mario and Bonnie, his brother Benjamin Alexander Leon, his sisters Cristina Roberta Alfar and Alejandra Luisa Leon, aunt Roberta and uncle Ronald Genini, and cousins Thomas, Justin, and Nicholas Genini.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hinds Hospice or the Tim Tebow Foundation.
