Dewey J. “Skip” Belli was born in Los Banos, California. He grew up and was raised in Firebaugh as a devout Catholic. He carried his faith with him throughout his life, never missing a day of church. After graduating from Dos Palos High School, Dewey went to Fresno City College where he played football and baseball. At Fresno City, he was a part of the State Championship teams in 1961 and 1962, which was later inducted into the Fresno City Hall of Fame. In 1963, Dewey transferred to Fresno State University where he met Jan Starn, the love of his life. They went on to get married on July 16, 1964. They lived in Dos Palos and eventually went on to make their home in Firebaugh, California in 1972. His love of sports led him to teach and coach at both San Joaquin Memorial and Dos Palos High School. During his work in education, he began to establish and continue many second-generation businesses in Firebaugh. Most importantly, he had a special satisfaction from planting and watching his crops grow, beginning with row crops, evolving to wine grapes and almonds.
Dewey and Jan didn’t take long to start their family. They have two children, Ann and John. They were active parents, involved in the community, the church, and their schools. They never missed any school sporting events.
Dewey was an avid golfer who was regularly found on the golf course 2-3 times a week with his group of friends. He was a loyal friend with a large social circle. He enjoyed fishing in Alaska, hunting, and regular visits to the coast. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.
His parents, Dewey and Inez Belli and his sister, Kathleen Hoyt, predecease Dewey.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Jan Belli and his children; Ann Bates (Jim), John Belli (Dione). His 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and his sisters Susie Renfro and Patty John (Brent).
In conclusion, Dewey will be greatly missed.
