Born on March 30, 1932, in Fresno, California, Don was the eldest son of Adam and Emma (Roth) Klein. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Klein, and is survived by his sister, Carol Oaks.
A proud graduate of Kerman High School, Class of 1950, Don became the first in his family to earn a college degree, graduating from Fresno State College in 1954. Soon after, he entered the U.S. Air Force, where he completed Navigator School and Radar Intercept Director training. He served his country with distinction throughout a long and honorable military career.
While stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington, Don met the love of his life, Faith Fellows. Their relationship grew through heartfelt letters during his assignment in Japan, culminating in their marriage on May 6, 1958, celebrated through ceremonies at the U.S. Consulate, the Air Force Base Chapel, and a traditional Japanese service. He is survived by his devoted wife, Faith Klein.
Following his military service, Don returned to Kerman, where he dedicated himself to teaching and raisin farming. He spent many years as a fourth-grade teacher at Kerman Floyd Elementary School. He was a lifelong member of the German Congregational Church in Biola, serving both as a member and officer. He and Faith were active in RV travel clubs. Don also had a deep passion for restoring classic cars and was a longtime member of the Fresno Classic Chevy Club, a hobby he joyfully shared with his family.
During their 67 years of marriage, Don and Faith were blessed with three daughters: Hope Luallen (Paul), Beth Johnson (Jeffrey), and Amy Russo (James). He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Dillon Luallen (Brooke), Cody Luallen (Macie), Connor Luallen (Rachel); Kathryne McAndrew (Dominic), Matthew Johnson (Nikki), Christopher Johnson (fiancée Bridgette); Vienna Russo, and Tanner Russo. He was further blessed with seven great-grandchildren.
Don found immense pride and joy in his family, especially in sharing his love of classic cars with his grandchildren. For over 50 years, he also cherished the companionship of his beloved Scottish Terriers.
Donald Gene Klein will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his country, his strong work ethic, and his deep love for his family. His life was marked by service, integrity, and generosity, leaving a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.
