OBITUARY

Dora F. Adams

February 22, 1914January 4, 2013

Dora Frances Adams was born in Novinger Mo. on February 22, 1914, to James and Elsie McFarland. She passed away on January 4, 2013 in Fresno Ca.

She married Harry Kendall Adams in 1930. She had four children, Ruth, Glora Lea, Evelyn, and Bobby. She and Harry came to California in the mid 1930's. Country living, horses, gardening (roses and iris her favorites), antiques, church, reading her bible, a love of children, and genealogy were among her passions. As a child, she rode a horse to grammar school and later with Harry, rode in many parades. Dora and Harry worked in the fields with their children and taught them the value of a hard days work. Holiday meals as well as barbecues in the summer were usually a large gathering with all her children and grand children. She belonged to a garden club in Kerman and had a beautiful yard packed with flowers. When the grand kids visited helping in her yard was common place.

Glora Lea remembers a summer when their mom took all the kids to Yosemite. What made the memory so special is that they were allowed to bring a friend along. Glora Lea said her mom made all children feel like they were special.

Evelyn recalled that she and her sisters got hair cuts or their bangs cut by their mom. Evelyn said she would run up a tree to not get a hair cut. When that didn't work she hid behind the couch where her mom couldn't reach her. The last ten years of Dora's life, Evelyn lovingly made sure all her needs were met.

Bobby remembers a bicycle accident he had at 6-7 years old when his mom let him help her make a quilt during his recuperation. She later sewed a headliner for Bobby's convertible and they had a great time installing it together. When Bobby got engaged to Bert, Dora offered to make her wedding gown. The result was a beautiful gown! Dora continued to help Bert by teaching her to sew Bobby's western shirts and baby clothes. The recipes and kindness to her daughter-in-law was appreciated throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by Harry Adams and Louie Ripley, and her grandson Ronald Mason.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Strickland and her husband Kenny, her daughter Glora Lea Crombie and her husband Wes, her daughter Evelyn Talbert, and her son Robert Adams and his wife Bert. Her grand children Larry, Kenneth, Carol, Dennis, Donald, Dorene,Steve, Debi, Carolyn, Darrel, Terri, 19 great grand children and 20 great great grand children.

I loved spending time at Aunt Dora and Uncle Harry's when I was a young girl . I rode those Horses all day long, then came in and ate Aunt Dora's good food. She was always so good to me, took me for new Boots and Jeans at JCPenney every summer I came to stay with her. She was always smiling and kind. I think she looked like her mom more than any of the other girls...my mom thought so to.

Grandma...you were always such a beautiful lady and I loved it when you told me stories about Donny being a little boy. You will be missed.

My fondest memory of Great Grandma Dora was every Christmas Eve we as a family would pick her up on our way out to Grandma Gloras house and listen to her tell all of her great stories about the "good old days." My favorite being (the love story of her and Great Grandpa Harry) then on our way home we would drop her off at home on Christmas Tree Lane and then we would continue down the lane to see the lights before heading home to get ready for Santa to come. I loved you so much Great Grandma, but glad that you are in a better place and in peace.
Love your Great Grandaughter,
