It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edna Stephenson Houston, who left us peacefully on January 7, 2025, just shy of her 91st birthday. Born on February 10, 1934, in Clarksdale Mississippi, Edna embodied a spirit of resilience and warmth that touched the lives of all who knew her. She moved to Fresno, California from Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1990.
Edna was the beloved daughter of Fred Lee Stephenson and Edna Lee Landrum, whose values and love she carried throughout her life. On November 28, 1954, Edna married the love of her life, John Adrian Houston Jr, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Together, they built a family filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Her husband, Adrian, preceded her in death in 2005, and their cherished daughter, Kathryn Houston Spangler passed in 2022.
Edna is also survived by her son, John Christopher Houston, and his spouse, Lisa Weiler Houston.
Evil found no place in the heart of Edie Houston and her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Patrick Houston and his spouse Elizabeth, Cal Houston and his spouse Megan, Matt Houston and his spouse Brooke, Conlan Spangler, and Caitlin Spangler-Bickell and her spouse Matthew. “Mimi” took immense pride and joy in her great-grandchildren: Emma, Jackson, Luke, Jazi, Lincoln, Maverick, Connor, Polly, and Inez.
Throughout her life, Edna was known for her giving nature, a wicked sense of humor, and razor-sharp wit. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcomed and appreciated, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. As an oncology nurse, she dedicated herself to caring for others. Edna also ventured into entrepreneurship, becoming a successful business owner running Guide to Better Homes Real Estate magazine for many years.
She found great joy in horseback riding and embarked on extensive travels around the world, creating stories and memories that she cherished and shared with her loved ones. Her zest for life was infectious.
Edie was an active member of her community, taking part in Bunco and Bridge groups that fostered camaraderie and friendship among peers. She formed lasting relationships and contributed to the joy of those around her, always a shining light in her social circles.
As we remember Edna Stephenson Houston, we celebrate a remarkable woman whose legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her love, laughter, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
