Betty was born and spent her early years in Albany, NY, then moved with her family to San Mateo, CA. She graduated from Mercy High School in Burlingame.
Betty met Bob while she was pursuing a degree as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph's College of Nursing. They were married on June 6, 1953 and enjoyed 62 years of wedded bliss. Betty set aside her professional career to devote herself to her fast-growing family, ultimately including five children, 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. She managed seven household moves over the course of Bob's career to exotic locations including Kettleman, Oildale and Barstow before moving along to Tracy, Danville, Chico and Fresno. With a home constantly full of active children, Betty found herself canning fresh fruits, making her famous jams and jellies, and baking fresh cookies. Her oatmeal cookies have been carried by her grandchildren to the far corners of the world, and have been enjoyed by citizens on several continents. Betty enjoyed arts and crafts, and found great pleasure in sharing her works with family and friends. Her greatest joy, was her family. Immensely proud and supportive of her children and grandchildren, she also drew her strength from them. Betty cherished the love and friendship of dear friends and neighbors she met throughout her life. Betty was a devout Catholic, and felt the love of God and the redeeming power of Christ throughout her life. The Knebel family extends thanks and appreciation for the prayers and warm wishes that have been offered on behalf of Betty and her family. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
