Elizabeth “Betsy” Suzanne Tripp Lucido, 75, was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 8, 1943, to Howard & Irene Tripp. She attended St. Thérèse Elementary School in Fresno, and then the Convent of the Sacred Heart of Menlo Park High School as a resident student. She attended the University of San Diego, where she met her husband William “Bill” Lucido.
Bill and Betsy were married in Fresno on June 6, 1964, where they made their home and raised their four lovely daughters, Maribeth, Anne, Katie and Monica. Betsy was the quintessential wife and mother and made her family the center of her universe. While raising their girls, Bill and Betsy welcomed their children’s friends into their home and treated them as their own. As her girls grew up, Betsy became actively involved in the Fresno community, keeping her Catholic faith at the forefront of all she did.
Betsy was a board member of Infant of Prague, and she and Bill sheltered many pregnant women contemplating adoption in their home for over 45 years. Betsy was honored by the Fresno County Women’s Chamber of Commerce as the “Fresno County Mother of the Year” in 1998. She was also a board member of Right to Life of Central California, and she and Bill were the 2012 honorees at their annual celebration dinner. Betsy was a member of the Ministers of Presence Guild of Catholic Charities. In 2011, Bill became a Catholic Deacon after Betsy supported him through the four-year program, which required her attendance and participation. Betsy was active in several ministries at Newman Center until the time of her death.
Betsy had the most loving and caring personality, and never met a stranger. Betsy made everyone she encountered feel like the most important person in the world, and never hesitated to give of her time. She made each of her nine grandchildren feel like they were each “her favorite,” and always found time to be active in their lives. The world was more joyful every day that Betsy lived, and now she is shining her beautiful light in Heaven with her Lord and Savior.
Betsy is survived by her husband, Bill, whom she was married to for 54 years; daughter Maribeth Eggleston and her husband Kevin and grandsons Maxwell, Henry and Logan Eggleston; daughter Anne Lucido; daughter Katie Lowell and her husband Rick and granddaughters Paige, Lindsey, and Maggie Lowell; and Monica Baker and her husband David and grandchildren Max, Grace, and Corbin Baker; her sister Kathie Tripp of Reno; and many beloved nieces and nephews, and friends she treated as family.
