
Muriel was born on July 30, 1924 in Vallejo, CA. Her family moved to Robinson, ND when she was very young and moved to Los Angeles at age 18 to study music. Muriel joined the Navy for two years during WW II. After her release she sang in the National Company of "Oklahoma". She then went to New York and sang on Broadway in "Texas Lil Darling". Later she joined the National Company of "South Pacific" for a year before returning to Los Angeles. Muriel was hired by a major advertising agency as a Media Director, purchasing radio and TV spots for large companies. It was during this time that she met and married John Hooker and had their daughter, Jonna. In 1966, the family moved to Fresno. She worked as an Employment Counselor at Pattison's Employment Agency. She sang in her various choirs and performed in New Wrinkles and was a member of the Fresno Opera League. Her social life also revolved around her many bridge groups.
Muriel is survived by her daughter Jonna Hooker, sister-in-law Elaine Bullis and her nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at noon at Westminster Presbyterian Church, followed by a lunch in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to Westminster Presbyterian Church at 50 E. Santa Ana, Fresno, Ca 93704 or to a favorite charity.
