Ernest G. Martinez Sr. was born on April 11, 1952, in Tracy, California to Sipriano and Esther Martinez. One of five children, Ernie grew up with a strong sense of family, which remained at the center of his life until the very end. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones on June 10, 2025, in Fresno, California.
Ernie served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked as a skilled meat cutter until his retirement from Hestbeck's in Fresno.
A true enthusiast of the open road, Ernie had a deep love for motorcycles and took part in many long-distance runs. He also cherished time spent fishing, especially at Lost Lake, with his closest fishing buddies. Dogs were always a beloved part of his family, and his affection for them never waned. Ernie found joy in oldies music, and was always happy to enjoy a good Chinese meal.
Ernie is survived by his devoted wife of almost 42 years, Annie, and his three adult children: Ernie Jr., Audrey (Affectionately known as "Dugee"), and Paul, who were his proudest accomplishments. He was very grateful for and is survived by his son-in-law Xavier, and his daughter-in-law Heather. Ernie also leaves behind seven treasured grandchildren: Macie, Jonathan, Genesis, Isaiah, Ernie III, Caroline (Lovingly nicknamed "Chickasaurus"), and the newest addition, Owen. Ernie is now reunited with his parents, Sipriano and Esther, and his two older brothers.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the VA Central California Health Care team for their unwavering support, and to Hinds Hospice of Fresno for their compassionate care during Ernie's final days.
A military service honoring Ernie's life will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, located at 32053 McCabe Road, Santa Nella, California, 95322, on Friday, July 18th, 2025, starting at 10:00am. A Celebration of Life for Ernie will follow, located at Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel, located at 202 N Teilman Avenue, Fresno, California, 93706, starting at 1:00pm.
