Ethel Marie Edwards

December 26, 1928April 8, 2013

Marie, age 84, loving mom, grandma and great-grandma, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on April 8, 2013. Marie was born on December 26, 1928, near Caruthers, Ca., where she resided until she met and fell in love with Ray. They were married on April 21, 1947. Ray and Marie later moved to the Easton area, where they raised their family. They were married for 54 years, until Ray's passing on August 23, 2001.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis Eugene and Alpha Elizabeth Tarlton; her infant grandson Eldon; and her brothers, Everett, Elmer, Roy and Irvin Tarlton.

Marie loved to cook. She was well known for her delicious berry cobbler, homemade buns, and fried apple pies. Her home was a gathering place for family, friends and neighborhood children. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, shopping, and especially loved to garden.

She was adored by her grandchildren. They say that they were so lucky to have had the "best grandma in the world."

"As we look upon her picture, sweet memories we recall of a face so full of sunshine, and smile for one and all."

Marie is survived by her five children, Reba and Carl Bowden, Eddie and Janie Edwards, Anna and Steve Farris, Janice and Harold Jung, and Darrell Edwards, all of the Easton area. Also 16 grandchildren and their spouses, Carla and Tim Savoia, Craig and Michelle Bowden, Donnie Edwards, Toni Combs, David and Elisabeth Edwards, Christina and John Berry, Steve and Amy Farris, Karina and James Edlund, Melissa and Matt Pap, Keisha and Steve Kellerhals, Natalie and Matt Woofter, Cynthia Jung and Denver, Kevin, Laura, and Mackenzy Edwards; 28 great-grandchildren, Marco, Rachel, Caleb and Faith Savoia, Jessica, Justin and Nicholas Bowden, Jared, Ashley and Preston Combs, Colton and Cadee Edwards, Haley and her husband, Matt Ruiz, Randy and Carter Herman, Tanner and Trenton Edlund, Sonora, Levi and Jude Farris, Devin Schmidt, Tyson Pap, Kevin, Brody and Ryan Kellerhals, Hannah and Raegan Woofter, and Brendyn Edwards and her sister, Florence Cullins; sister-in-law, Alveda Tarlton of Fresno; sister-in-law, Kathleen Edwards of Nipomo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

My condolences to the family of Marie Edwards. I think I remember meeting her once or twice, but I certainly remember meeting at least three of her children, Reba, Eddie & Anna, many times in my classroom

I am confident Marie's great children learned their exemplary way of life from their mom; I am sure that mom was very proud of them as she should have been.

My days at WUHS were a great part of my life as I hope it was for Marie's children. To find the connection with the Tarlton family only makes that more meaningful.

My wishes of the best for the Edwards children and their families.

Marie was such a beautiful woman inside and out. I have so many fond memories of spending time in her home. From her watching my hem line and how much makeup I was wearing, to baking cookies and pizza in her kitchen. I always felt welcomed and loved everytime I entered her home. She was a woman of great character, which I greatly admired. I am blessed to have known someone so special. My prayers and thoughts go out to the family. Terry Gipson Nash

We all loved Marie and have very good memories of times spent with her and Ray at their home or at other family gatherings. We are blessed to have known her and to be a part of her "extended" family. We are praying for all of her family and ours, that God will be with you in the difficult days without her.
