Evie Fisher passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017, at the age of 89. She was born Evelyn Margaret Tashjian in Los Angeles, CA, to Charles Tashjian, and Zarhoui Kinosian. At the age of three, her birth father died suddenly, leaving the Tashjian family devastated. With their tragic loss, John Tashjian, her father's youngest brother, married her mother in 1932, and eventually adopted Evie. The family relocated to Fowler, CA in 1937, purchasing a small vineyard.
Evie graduated from Fowler High School in 1946, then earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Fresno State College in 1950, with a major in speech and theatre arts. She married George Fisher in September of 1950, immediately relocating to Omaha, NE, where her new husband started dental school. She secured her teaching credential and began teaching fifth and sixth grade, supporting her husband George, as they began their new life. They moved back to Fresno after he completed his studies in 1954. Evie and George had three children, Steven John in 1954, Nancy Ann in 1957, and Karen Marie in 1958. She became a full time mother and homemaker, a role she took very seriously with love and compassion. Evie was active during her married years with local civic organizations. Among those that inspired her participation were the junior 'LARCS', Cancer Society, dance league, and the Fresno Philharmonic. She enjoyed the theatre, playing bridge, and tennis. Evie and George's marriage ended in 1982. With her young adult kids out of the house, she hosted, mentored, and became an "American Mom" to many Chinese-Indonesian foreign exchange college students over the next ten years. This experience opened her world to travel abroad, and created a new purpose and meaning in her life. An elegant entertainer, Evie took great pride in making sure that everything she did was done with style and class. She cultivated and nurtured wonderful friendships during her lifetime. Her Catholic faith and inner strength helped her to persevere when her body began to limit her mobility and the activities that she deeply cared about. Evelyn was preceded in death by her adopted father John; and her mother Zarhoui. She is survived by her son, Steven Fisher and wife Barbara of Redmond, OR; her daughters, Nancy Fisher of West Los Angeles, CA, and Karen Fisher; and granddaughter, Casandrah Catterton of Santa Monica, CA.
