

91. She was born July 20, 1924 in Washington D.C. to George A. Muzikar and
Hilma Mendenhall Muzikar. Eloise's father was in the Navy and she lived in
Guam and visited China as a young girl. While a senior at Hoover High School in
San Diego, Eloise lived with neighbors while her mother and younger sister
joined her father in Samoa, and her older sister, Jeanne, was living in Honolulu
where her Navy husband, Phil Thacher, was stationed, when Pearl Harbor was
attacked.
Eloise was married just four months in 1944, when her husband, Ensign Robert
E. Hebbler, was killed in an airplane training accident near Norfolk, Virginia. A
war widow, and mother of 16 month old Robert Erickson Hebbler II, Eloise
married Howard W. Holmes on February 28, 1946, in San Diego. As an Air Force
wife, Eloise lived in Rabat, Morocco, Washington, Southern California, Hawaii,
and Maryland.
Eloise and Howard moved to Carmichael in 1971 . She taught Tiny Tots in Land
Park for 16 years and was active in International Inner Wheel, Emblem Club, and
several RV groups. Eloise and Howard loved to travel, whether by land or sea or
air. Eloise will long be remembered for her kindness, her ability to recall dates
and places, and the beautiful crocheted or knitted blankets she made for each
family member.
Howard, who died in 2008, and Eloise, are survived by their three children: Bob
Hebbler, his two children, Dr. Tamara Hebbler, and her two children, Zachary and
Kayla Monahan, and Garth Hebbler, his wife, Sarah, and son, Jack, all of the San
Diego area. Joanne Ornellas and her husband, Robert, of Fresno, and their two
children, John Howard Ornellas, his wife Dawn, and their three daughters,
Willow, Abby, and Mia, of Novato, and Julie and her husband, Zachary Russi,
and their four sons, Payton, Jayden, Stone, and Grant of Redwood City. Col.
(Ret) Kenton Holmes and his wife Jody, of Tarpon Springs, FL, and their two
daughters, Maj. Erin Brilla and her husband, A.J. Brilla, and their son, Parker, of
San Antonio, TX, and Kaylen Saunders of Gainesville, FL.
Eloise was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Juleene Hebbler, and her
two sisters, Jeanne Thacher, and Marilyn Platzer.
Internment will be in the EI Cajon Cemetery at a future date.
