

George was a lifelong resident of Fresno (Easton). He graduated from Washington Union High School in 1943. After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II for 28 months. Upon returning home he started working for his three uncles at Commercial Mfg. George met the love of his life, Rowena Vart, and they were united in marriage in 1950. They were blessed with three children, George R., Michael and Gayle. He was employed by Commercial Mfg. as a purchasing agent for 43 years, along with farming part time-which led to full time upon his retirement. George was a 54 year Mason and a member of the Sciots Drill Team. For the last 20 years he was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
George has been reunited with his parents, Mike and Mary; and his son, Michael who he deeply missed for 36 years.
Left to mourn, celebrate and remember George are his loving wife of 62 years, Rowena; son, George R. and his wife Kari; daughter Gayle Shaterian-Smith and her husband John; and his grandsons, Rowen and Robbie Shaterian, who he was so proud of.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff at The Veterans Hospital (Fresno). Especially to Dr. Naggar and his team of residents and the nurses in the Special Care Unit.
A Funeral Service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, 187 N. Broadway in Fresno on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at 10:30 a.m.
Remembrances may be made in George's memory to Bethel Lutheran Church; or your favorite charity.
