Gerald Walter Marquez

Walter was born to Gerardo and Carolina Marquez, November 15, 1927, in Madera, CA. He married Angelina Cobarrubia in 1949, and they lived together in Madera, CA.

Preceded in death by his parents he was the last survivor of his family.

He attended Easton Arcola School in Madera and graduated from Madera High School in 1944. He was a member of the MDHS Marching Band and participated in Track & Field.

He leaves in cherished memory all since passed: Nicholas Marquez 1950, Ester Pules 2008, Adolfo Marquez 1930, Lupe Qurioz 2004, Richard Marquez 2004, Ophelia Rodarte 1977, Caroline Medina 1959, Juliet Zaragoza 2018, also Twins -Maria Celida 1917 & Maria Solidad 1937, Maria Leila 1920.

Preceded in Death by his loving wife Angelina in 2021.

He leaves as his legacy 9 children: Monica and Husband Joe Alvarez, Gerald and Wife Lupe, Regina and Husband Isacc Flores, Paul Marquez, Vincent Marquez, Michael and Wife Michelle, Lisa and Husband Pete Mayorga, Theresa and Husband Abel Barboza, Carlos and Letty.

22 Grandchildren, 37 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great Great Grandchildren.

Walter was a Farmer in Madera County until 1966. He farmed his Father's Ranch located on Ave. 7 Road 30. Growing Thompson seedless grapes for raisins and harvesting cotton.

In 1967, the family moved to Fresno, Ca. where he maintained various Food Sales Marketing positions. He was always supportive of his children’s education including school athletics and Cheer events and equally proud of his sons Paul, Vince, Michael, and Carlos who served in the U.S. Military.

He was a lifelong Catholic and active member of St. Joachims Catholic Parish in Madera and Shrine of St. Therese Catholic Parish in Fresno. He was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 1255 St. Mary Queen of Apostles and a Forth degree at Council # 15122 Shrine of St. Therese, in Fresno.

A visitation for Gerald will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home, 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA 93720. A recitation of the holy rosary will occur Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 5:00 PM, 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA 93720. A mass of christian burial will occur Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 10:00 AM at The Shrine Of Saint Therese, 855 E Floradora Ave, Fresno, CA 93728. A graveside service will occur Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 11:30 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, 264 N Blythe Ave, Fresno, CA 93706.
