On September 12, 2010, Glenn left this life as he lived it, gently and peacefully. He was born April 28, 1910, the youngest of 6 children, in Russellville, Missouri, to Jasper Newton Leslie and Rosa Ella Green Simpson.
Orphaned by age 9, at 17 he began his 50-year teaching career, teaching grades one through eighth in a one-room school. He attended college intermittently, when he had savings from his teaching, ultimately obtaining his Masters and Doctorate of Education from the University of Missouri in 1945. Over his long career he taught every grade except kindergarten, was a principal, a superintendant, and ultimately a college professor. He came to California State University Fresno in 1958 from North East Missouri State College (now Harry Truman College) as a professor of Elementary Education, spending many years as the supervisor of student teaching. Most summers were spent administering the summer session in Visalia.
In 1938 he married Eula Wilson, who predeceased him; she also became an educator, retiring from Hoover High School in Fresno. He is survived by his daughter, Judith Leslie Soley, and his granddaughter, Leslie Alexandra Soley, of Fresno.
Glenn enjoyed a full 100 years of life, supported for more than a decade by the special care of his caregivers, Maria Nunez and Josue Torres, and their extended families who adopted him as their own.
Remembrances may be made to the San Joaquin River Parkway, Hinds Hospice, or the donors' favorite charity.
Arrangements under the direction of Stephens & Bean Funeral Chapel, Fresno, CA.
