Gregory Albert Labiak, 72 years old, of Clovis, California was born on February 12, 1946 and he went to be with his Lord on January 28, 2019. Gregg was born in Chicago, Illinois to Albert and Lillian (Tiraj) Labiak. He was the fourth of ten siblings.
Raised in Chicago, Gregg attended St. Margaret Elementary School, St. Rita’s High School, and Lindblom High School. After graduating high school at age 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country with distinction and was honorably discharged at age 21. While stationed in Lemoore, California Gregg dedicated his free time to attend college in the evenings earning his degree from Cal-State University Fresno. While in the Navy, Gregg met his future wife, Christine Browns. Gregg and Christine were blessed with four beautiful children: a daughter, Rebecca; and sons, Gregory Jr., Stephen, and Nathan. During his years as an insurance broker, he co-founded and built a reputable insurance company that remains a prominent name in the Fresno Community today. Invigorated with an entrepreneurial spirit he proceeded over the next 30 years to open and operate a chain of successful hair salons located throughout California. With his hard work mentality, Gregg never stopped in business and was always striving towards the next venture on the horizon.
Gregg enjoyed attending daily and Sunday mass at his local church. He enjoyed rejoicing through song and was an active choir member in various parishes over the years. He looked forward to golfing with his “buddies” or meeting friends and family for a meal. Gregg had a passion for cooking and sharing his “life lessons” with friends and acquaintances. With a kind heart, constantly looking to help others, he was active in the Veteran and Catholic communities.
He is survived and celebrated by three children; Rebecca (Michael) Perez, Stephen (Dawn) Labiak, and Nathan (Jennifer) Labiak who begat him seven grandchildren; Maya, Amanda, Barrett, Spencer, Charleigh Mae, Lilliana, and Tyler, who he adored more than anything else in his life. In addition, Gregg is survived by six siblings; Marsha, David, Rita, Janine, Larry, and Kathy.
Gregg shared his love and passion for life with those living around him, and asked to be remembered with the simple mantra, “He tried”.
