Greyson Dean Anderson

September 16, 1944 – March 19, 2026
Obituary of Greyson Dean Anderson
IN THE CARE OF

Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel

It is with heavy hearts we announce Greyson Dean Anderson, 81, born September 16, 1944, in Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on March 19, 2026.

A beloved and devoted man, Grey made his home in Fresno, California, where so much of his life’s work and quiet joy took root. He graduated from high school and attended some college, carrying forward a steady curiosity that would later bloom into a lifelong calling.

Grey opened the first Nee-Hai Bonsai location in Fresno, California, in 1980. From the beginning, he was generous with his time and knowledge — teaching bonsai workshops and helping out at fairs, garden shows, and other events from 1980 until 1984. In 1982, he appeared on a local Fresno Cable television show, sharing his passion with the wider community. From 1984 to 1985, Grey taught bonsai classes in Santa Cruz and Aptos and later taught bonsai courses at Monterey Peninsula Community College from 1989 until 1990.

In 1991, he was a guest speaker for the Home & Garden Show in Fresno, which reignited his passions once again. In 1994, he restarted Nee-Hai Bonsai in Fresno at its current location, continuing there until 2025 — years marked by patience, artistry, and the kind of devotion that can’t be rushed.

Grey was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and June Anderson. He is survived by his loving wife, Chieko Anderson, who's life together was a steady center—built on care, loyalty, and shared days that mattered.

Beyond plants and bonsai, Grey loved drawing, another way he expressed the careful attention he brought to the world. He also loved Native American culture and music, especially flutes, and he could even play the flute — an intimate, gentle talent that reflected the thoughtful spirit so many will remember. He will be greatly missed by all those who had the honor of knowing and loving him.
