Harold proudly served in the United States Coast Guard, an experience that reflected his dedication, discipline, and commitment to serving others. Following his military service, he built a life centered around hard work, family, and his community.
For many years, Harold owned and operated Harold’s Automotive, a local automotive repair business he first established with an Arco gas station at Peach and Belmont in Fresno before moving the business to its current location on Clinton Avenue. Through his years in business, he became known not only for his knowledge and skill as a mechanic, but also for his honesty, reliability, and the relationships he formed with customers and members of the community. He continued working until his retirement in 2002.
Harold took great pride in the home and farm he built with his wife Janet over many years. Through hard work and determination, the home and property that he lovingly maintained became an important part of his life and a place where he created many lasting memories with his family and friends.
He also enjoyed sharing his knowledge and skills with others. Harold volunteered as a woodworking mentor in 4-H and took great pride in supporting his daughters as they raised and showed animals through the 4-H organization. He valued the opportunity to teach, encourage, and pass along the practical skills and work ethic he had developed throughout his life.
Over the years, Harold enjoyed many hobbies and adventures, including camping, dirt biking, Jeep 4-wheeling, riding his Harleys, and gun collecting. He had a lifelong love of cars, machinery, farming, and working with his hands, and there was rarely a project around the farm or home that he wasn't willing to take on.
Harold is survived by his two daughters, Kim Heron and Jodi Hill; his sister, Judy Crocket; and his grandchildren, Nick Heron, Kevin Heron, and Regan Hill. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Venton and Bessie, and his beloved wife, Janet, whom he loved throughout his life and with whom he will be laid to rest. He was also preceded in death by his longtime companion, Sandy Elia, who brought friendship and happiness to his later years.
Those who knew Harold will remember him for his sense of humor and generosity. His legacy lives on through his family, the friends he made throughout his life, the business he built, the home and farm he created, and the knowledge and skills he shared with others.
Respecting his wishes, a private service with immediate family will be held. His family is grateful for the love, support, and understanding of friends and community members as they honor his memory privately.
Harold will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
