

Born in Dayton, Ohio to Harry Kennedy and Adlyn Cummins Kennedy, he was the oldest of three sons. The younger two, Thomas and Fr. Bill, passed away over the past 10 years.
He graduated from the University of Dayton in 1958, then served as a communications officer on Coast Guard ships in Boston. Then he went home as a reporter for the Dayton Daily News for four years.
Returning to school, he earned a master's degree at American University in Washington, D. C. and worked in public relations in New York City. After teaching at St. Bonaventure University, he earned a doctorate in mass communications at Ohio University. He then taught at Fresno State and Fresno City College for the next 26 years, retiring in 2006.
As a part-time reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, he covered many stories including the Coalinga earthquake. In retirement he was interested in antiques and in homeless advocacy as a member of the Bishops' Homeless Committee.
He is survived by his wife Sangnete and her daughter Sarochin Pechinthorn, his nephews Padraic and Eamon Kennedy and nieces Maura Anaya and Caitlin Kennedy, and his first cousins James Fitzgerald and Ellen Mitchell.
