She was born Helen Evangelou Lekas, in Limnes, Greece. Helen was one of six sisters and together they survived the ravages of World War II. In 1947, Helen immigrated to the United States, as a war bride.
In 1948, Helen married Sam Efthemon of Dinuba, Ca. also a Greek immigrant. They moved to Fresno in 1957 where Sam owned and operated Angelo's Drive-In. Helen was preceded in death by Sam in 1983.
Helen was a devout member and supporter of St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Fresno. Helen most loved church and family celebrations. Orthodox Easter was always a highlight of her year, celebrated with family and friends at her home in Fresno.
Helen is survived by her children, George Efthemon of Fresno; Elizabeth Wellington and her husband Don of Orinda, Ca; grandchildren, Don Wellington III and his wife Kim of Issaquah, Wa. Stephen Wellington of Playa Vista, Ca. and Katrina Deanda and her husband Kier of Berkeley, Ca; and sisters Marina Karambelas of Portland, Or. and Sophia Lekas of Athens, Greece.
