Our Grandmother will always hold a special place in the heart of so many people. Her beautiful smile, kind words, and giving nature will live on in the hearts and minds of those who know her. My brother and I were lucky enough to spend many summers with my Grandparents. The word “spoiled” would be an understatement. She would cook us any meal, at any time of the day, regardless of what time it was, or what she had already planned. Although we would like to think she only did this for us, she did this for everyone who came into her kitchen. Cooking and baking was her way of giving to those she loved. A piece of sponge cake was always available, and at Grandmas… cake was a perfectly fine breakfast option. No matter what we cook or bake, whether it is sponge cake, filhos, Portuguese beans, or almond brittle the inevitable response is, “It’s good, but it’s not as good as Voa’s!”
Joey and I were so blessed to have had this extraordinary woman mold us into the people we are today. We will always cherish the lessons in love she gave us without asking anything in return. Thank you Grandma for teaching us the strength to work hard, give freely, and to love our children fiercely. We promise to carry on your legacy through our children. Your light and memory will always be a sanctuary for us.
Love,
Lisa and Joey
