

Herbie Ponce (Huberto Ponce Jr.) was granted his wings and entered the kingdom of our Lord on September 26, 2021. Family and friends surrounded his final days as he peacefully transitioned to Heaven after a courageous battle with cancer.
Herbie was born in Brownsville, Texas, on September 25, 1955, to Father Huberto Ponce Sr. and Mother Dora G. Ponce Fregoso. He was the eldest of eight children. He retired from Gusmer Enterprises Inc. after twenty-one years of employment as a water jet and forklift operator. He was known to be a dedicated and trustworthy hard worker. He was respected by his co-workers, who many became his lifelong friends!
He was thankful that GOD gave him 66 years of life. He was loved by all who knew him. He held great relationships with everyone and can be a jokester with a lot of humor at times. He always remembered birthdays. He loved his family, friends, and his dog Harley. Harley was his pride and joy and was always by Herbie’s side and rode with him on his Harley Davidson. Herbie has been a sports fanatic ever since he was a child. He was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco Giants fan. He never missed a game! He also enjoyed watching old western movies such as “Gun Smoke, Bonanza, Rifleman, Mayberry RFD, and let’s not forget, his scary movies. Herbie was like a big kid himself and would dress up in the best Halloween costumes so that he could give candy. Another favorite hobby was eating food, especially Menudo! Herbie was a loving son, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, cousin, and friend. He always remembered birthdays.
Herbie is preceded in death his father, Huberto Ponce Sr., mother, Dora Ponce Fregoso, and beloved daughter Priscilla Ponce.
He is survived by his son Matthew Ponce and siblings; sister Dr. Gloria Ponce Rodriguez, brothers Peter Ponce, Manuel Ponce, Isidro Ponce, and sisters Norma Gonzales Plaud, Esmeralda Ponce Rodriguez, Jannie Rios, and their spouses; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.
He is also survived by his extended family, stepmother, Angelica Ponce; sister, Ana Ponce Sugura and Christine Ponce.
Services to be held: funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on October 14, 2021, at Holy Spirit Church located at 355 East Champlain Dr., Fresno, CA. and burial will be following at Mountain View Cemetery located at 1411 W. Belmont Ave., Fresno, CA. In addition, a celebration of Herbie’s life will be held at Elks Lodge #439, located at 5351 N. Diane St., Fresno, CA., from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
