Grandma Irene always had this quiet wisdom about her that I admired. I used to love going to the Effie house and sit on the windows box and look through all of the books she had on the shelf. Her house always smelling of coffee. She was a very artistic I remember she used to make me paper dolls and sew me dolls and doll clothes from cloth flour sacs. She loved to draw fancy ladies and eyes and other things. My love of Frida Khalo came from her and my appreciation for Mexican cooking and culture also. She would listen to Spanish music when she was in the kitchen cooking. She never made fancy meals but they always tasted so good to me. Some of my best memories as a child were at the Effie house with Grandma watching PBS and drawing and looking at books. I get a lot of my traits granny. The older I get the more I realize that she had the right idea to keep things simple. Rest in paradise My Dear Granny.
Love Colette

Irene was a wonderful lady. She was my Mother in law for 22 years.
She was the best Mother in law a girl could ever have. I always over the years enjoyed our conversations and her wisdom concerning my Children. Rest In Peace dear Irene. See you in Heaven.

I have a lot of memories with you at your house on Effie! Watching PBS on TV, when you used to bathe me in the tub and always told me I had to wash behind my ears good! You would make me tea and put your mint from your backyard garden in it! I always admired your green thumb. Thank you for always loving me and never judging me. See you in heaven when we meet again

Grandma, I still remember when I pulled up to your house and I was 17 and pregnant with Valinda. You came out to greet me and my dad. You never made negative comments and I always knew you cared about me and my children. Thanks for all the conversations on the phone. I miss you and I can’t wait to see you again.
