From the day of her birth on September 21, 1942 in Los Angeles, California to her return home to Jesus, Janeice Jay Langan (Jan) made an everlasting imprint on the hearts of all who knew her. Jan could always be counted on for her unfiltered sense of humor and zest for life which marvelously complemented her genuine giving nature and commitment to others.
Jan’s playful passion for living traces back to her early days growing up in Southern California as she enjoyed a childhood filled with horse shows, water skiing at the lake or silly shenanigans like skitching on a toboggan when it snowed once a year in Palmdale. Jan’s strong conviction for giving also manifested in her youth. As a young lady she became actively involved in Job’s Daughters where she grew as a leader in serving the community and was honored as a pageant queen to represent the organization. Jan graduated from Palmdale High School in 1960 and then attended Antelope Valley College where she was also a member of the school’s softball team.
Shortly after college, while working in the supply room at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, CA, Jan met her dearest Joe. Jan and Joe courted for just a few months before they wed at St Bernadine Church in Woodland Hills, CA on January 20, 1965. Jan and Joe spent their early years of marriage years raising and showing bloodhounds, a few of them even appearing on Hollywood screens. They were later blessed to adopt a son and daughter - their pride and joy. With young ones at home, Jan continued her work at the hospital, but found herself in a new role as volunteer coordinator which allowed her caring spirit to blossom.
In 1984, Jan and Joe, along with their children, dogs and chickens, moved to Fresno, CA where Jan spent her days as a cherished wife, homemaker, community volunteer and neighbor. Jan and Joe’s love for family, friends and travel was the source of many hosted parties and adventures, by motorhome, car or plane. Ireland was their favorite destination. Even after she lost Joe in 2003, Jan continued to fill the pages of her life story with many more unforgettable trips with loved ones, the memories of which are her gift to all those who were lucky enough to be a part of them.
Although Jan enjoyed celebrating her ancestry with a nice spot of English tea and biscotti she was a sun and sand girl at heart, spending many a summers by the pool at home or on a beach vacation destination; the likes of the California coast, Hawaii, Mexico or the Bahamas. On any other given day you might find her lunching with the ladies, taking a trip to the Indian casinos, attending countless sporting events to cheer on her grandchildren, or shopping for purses, gold earrings or another pair of her boujee shoes.
Jan was a silent warrior. As an infant she underwent major surgery for intestinal atresia from which she carried various complications throughout her life. She fought and won against breast, colon, skin and lung cancers. Then in 2018, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and after a slow and spirited journey, she passed away in her care home with her children by her side, just 2 days following the celebration of her 80th birthday.
Jan is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Langan and her mother and father, Ina and Joe Ramey. She is survived by her brother, Terry Ramey, two children, Thad Langan and Stasia Szpor, three grandchildren, Marec, Kherigan and Joseph, and many nieces and nephews who adored her.
Jan will forever be remembered as mom, granny, sister, aunt and true friend. Her beautiful smile and laughter will be missed dearly by all, but shines bright and is heard amongst the angels in heaven.
Well done good and faithful servant.
A funeral mass for Jan will be held at Saint Paul Newman Center Catholic Church on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 11am.
