Jennie Costales, 89, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2011 at the Hinds Hospice Home, Fresno, following a short illness. Born into a large Italian family, Jennie was raised and lived in Tranquillity all her life. She was only a few weeks from her 90th birthday when she died.
Jennie married her high school sweetheart, Martin Costales, in 1942, and together they farmed ranches in Tranquillity and Madera for over fifty years. Jennie was the consummate farmer´s wife; a legendary chef, whose abundant table included freshly baked pies and cakes virtually every day. Her home was open to all and became the site of family gatherings throughout her life. She was the sparkplug of the family and will be remembered as a warm and vivacious woman who had a cup of coffee and a sympathetic ear for everyone.
Jennie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Martin, and her cherished son, Danny.
She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Fredrikson, and son-in-law, Jon, of Woodside, and son, David Costales of Tranquillity. She was lovingly cared for by Mary Ann Costales of Tranquillity in the last decade of her life. She leaves one sister, Valia Niboli, of San Joaquin, eight dear grandchildren: Nikki Martinez, Jennifer Gorczyca, Jared Costales, Melissa Martinez, Tiffany Costales, Franco Costales, Jenny Goines and Erica Fredrikson; and nine precious great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Jennie´s life will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tranquillity at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011.
The family requests remembrances to Hinds Hospice, 1616 W. Shaw St. C-1, Fresno, or to St. Paul Catholic Church, 25592 W. Dowdy Ave., Tranquillity.
